Western RPGs Empty
PostSubject: Western RPGs   Western RPGs EmptyThu Jun 02, 2011 1:40 am

I just noticed that most of the RPG games in this subsection seem to be J-RPGs, so instead of making a thread orientated to one western RPG when they as individuals don't seem so popular on this forum, I figured I should try and make one covering the lot of them.

That's games like Mass Effect, Fallout, Baldur's Gate, Elder Scrolls, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, The Witcher, Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines, Neverwinter Nights, Deus Ex, and of course, the greatest RPG of all time, Planescape: Torment (which I could spend just hours raving about and explaining why it is the greatest RPG of all time).

So anyway, do you lot like any Western RPGs? Looking forward to any upcoming ones? I'm personally quite keen on Skyrim.

I still have my old Xbox 1 with Jade Empire, Knights of the Old Republic AND Deus Ex: Invisible War.
Recently started Jade Empire again too, love it.
Quite taken with both Mass Effect games and Fallout 3...

Invisible War? Did you ever play the first one? I highly recommend it.

And Mass Effect is frankly awesomeness incarnate. Really looking forward to 3. Especially if we do get to fight Reapers over future London.

I played the original Deus Ex on PS2 and got the Illuminati and the merger endings. I kept my Mass Effect 2 file on the 360 in case we get character importing still for 3, plan on keeping my Sheperd from 1 & 2 Very Happy

Yeah, they're still gonna keep their character importing. 3 will be when all the decisions you made really cause the crap to hit the fan.

Sorry for double posting, but well-

Anyone been paying attention to e3? Some of the stuff has blown me away. Keeping with the Western RPG theme, the stuff shown for Skyrim and Mass Effect 3 has looked really good.

Well I haven't really been paying attention to E3 (what exactly is it? I saw a lot of people talking about it but I don't quite understand, lol).

But I'm a big fan of Dragon Age: Origins, I've played it 3 times. It's one of my favourite RPGs. I'm not too keen on Dragon Age II though, I wanted it to continue on after DA:O. D:

E3. Electronic Entertainment Expo. It's pretty much a massive video game conference where all the big game developers and companies show off or announce their upcoming games or hardware.

I wasn't too big a fan of DA:O. It felt too recycled to me, like Bioware just quickly put a bunch of cliches together and shoved it out of the door to tide people over till Mass Effect 2 was released. DA2 wasn't that great either, but the combat was a bit better and I liked there was actually a bit of conflict in the storyline and people choosing sides rather than the generic "gather allies to go fight evil orcsdarkspawn".

Nah, if you want to see Bioware's real strengths- Baldur's Gate series, KOTOR (most people like 1 better because 2 was made by Obsidian and they were forced to release it before they could finish the game so it's a bit glitchy and has a lot of cut content, but I really like the second better) or the Mass Effect series.

Ah I see, thanks for clearing that up for me! I think I'll tell my brother about it since he's into video games more than I am.

Yeah, it got a bit boring at times especially the quests that took literally hours to do. But I wanted to try and get all the achievements. XD

Oh right, I'll have to look into that... Although don't really have time for video games anymore, I'll probably just buy it as a gift for my brother and just watch him play from time-to-time, LOL.

Oh... I think Fable (II & III) is a good RPG. I still haven't completed Fable III but I know what happens in the ending. I'm trying to earn as much money as possible since I like being a good person on RPGs. XD

I only played the first one which was pretty fun. I have a PS3, so II and III were out of my hands.

Anyone heard about the new Deus Ex game that was just released? I wasn't that keen on it, sure it'd just be some dumbed-down shooter version, but from what I hear, it's actually a worthy successor to the first Deus Ex, one of the greatest RPGs ever made.

I have been away a while... Abusing both Dragon Age games... I stupidly played 2 first and decided to get the 1st one with Awakenings and damn well enjoying it.
